F.N.’s Story

I too was prescribed pain meds for a chronic pain condition that has no cure in sight. I spent many years addicted to pills and actually ended up with felony charges for “dr. shopping” due to my addiction.

After my first prison sentence, I came out and found that heroin was much cheaper and easier to get. I spent another 5 years addicted to opiates and meth along with another prison sentence due to it. In those 5 years, I also became an IV user, which became a whole other addiction in itself that I had to recover from physically and mentally.

After my 2nd prison sentence, I had almost 2 years clean before I ended up breaking my foot. I was prescribed a low dose of Vicodin and stupidly thought I could take it for pain and be done. Boy, was that the dumbest lie I’ve ever told myself!

I ended up going back to heroin for another few months until my boyfriend caught on and called me out on it. He took me to a clinic to get on MAT (suboxone) to help with the withdrawals. I’m happy to say as of right now I have over a year free from my addiction. Without his support and Suboxone, I don’t know if I would have successfully come back from that relapse.

I’m very lucky to have survived my last relapse, especially with the fentanyl epidemic that is taking so many loved ones’ lives now. Hoping to help at least one person not feel so alone.
